In the state of Gui there lived a Mr. Lu who was nearly sixty years old. He enjoyed taking eel for every meal. The eels which had been killed by him were countless in number.
One day, he went to town to buy some eels. As he wanted to choose fat and fleshy eels, the fishmonger allowed him to pick them out himself. So he rolled up his sleeve and stretched out his hand into the earthen basin. To his surprise the whole group of eels gathered and attacked him, biting deeply into his arm. The pain was so acute that he fainted and his face turned deathly pale. Even though he had removed his arm from the basin, their jaws were clamped shut and they clung to him in a row on his arm. The teeth pierced deeply into his flesh.
At that time, the people in the market all gathered around to take a look. When his son arrived, he quickly carried him home. He cut off the eel’s bodies but their jaws still refused to let go. Finally he had to hit them off one by one. His flesh was torn to shreds and he was crying out in severe pain before he finally died.
