During the Sui Tang Dynasty, the Patriarch of the Tian-tai Sect, was the Venerable Master Zhi-zhe. He was also known as Zhi-yi, Emperor Sui-yang, who was very respectful towards his virtuous conduct, was the one who bestowed upon him the name Zhi-zhe (The Wise One). The great master was always worried for those people who killed animals cruelly for food. As he wished to transform these people, he asked the lay disciples to contribute towards a fund for building a pond for liberating lives. He used the money to buy sixty plots of lowlands in Zhejiang. The land was located next to the sea and its length measured more than four hundred miles. A large liberating pond was constructed on the land and he encouraged people to refrain from killing and to liberate lives.
Besides that, he also suggested to the Imperial Court to erect stone tablets with engraved signs in order to prohibit people from catching fish. Those tablets could still be seen until the year of Zhe-guan in the Tang Dynasty.
Later, many wise emperors and High Sanghans also led the way to abstain from killing and to protect lives. During the reign of Tang Xu-zong, in the second year of Rian-yuan, the Emperor ordered all the Counties in the state to dig ponds for liberation. During the reign of Song Zhen-zong in the year of Tian-xi, the Emperor also widely encouraged his people to dig liberation ponds. The Lake Xi-hu in Hang-zhou was originally a liberation pond. It was dug during the Song Dynasty. Now it has become a famous place of interest. During the Ming Dynasty, the High Sanghan Lian-chi also dug ponds for liberating lives at Shang-fang and Chang-shou. Besides that, he also wrote an essay on the merits of people to be kind and humane and to abstain from killing. That is why from the ancient times till the present there were countless humane followers who brought forth the mind to liberate lives in order to show respect towards the virtuous master.
However these are all past incidents. The originators had left world and with the change of time and situation, the good practices are deteriorating day by day. Now we can see the lighted fishing boats everywhere. At midnight, the fishermen go out to fish and their lighted boats look like stars in the dark night. There are also all kinds of fishing competitions and other kinds of cruel sports which encourage the killing of animals for fun. It is really sad indeed.
“You must acknowledge and experience this part of the universe. Karma is intricate, too vast. You would, with your limited human senses, consider it too unfair. But you have tools to really, truly love. Loving the children is very important. But love everyone as you would love your children...Unless one fully experiences one’s humanity, one will have to experience earth again and again. One will have to repeat the lessons offered here upon the earth. It is possible that one need not have to reincarnate. However, many don’t live up to their full potential because they’re afraid of death. I want to emphasize here that only the body dies. People get too attached to their physicality. However, they have to. One’s consciousness of the physical must be fairly strong in order for the soul’s desire to continue. The more we feel our humanity, the more help we can give and the more joy we can create...The best you can do,” stresses Kuan Yin, “is to live a life governed by integrity. Live your life with authenticity. Do the best you can and be honest with yourself and others. There is a collective agreement that this (life you are living on earth) is reality. Therefore, you have to play along...Do not believe that your humanity prevents you from being spiritual. Know that this (earth) drama doesn’t mean spirituality doesn’t exist on the earth plane. Try to be forgiving and objective when enduring your own earthly drama. Indeed, one’s approach to one’s own life drama can actually affect the outcome. That is, certain interactive strategies can render an “ordinary” drama, spiritual. Don’t fall into the trap of ego and money. Don’t be too concerned whether the drama you’re experiencing is a result of karma. Rather, emphasize the concept that we are all one, that no one is better than the other. You are all sacred energies and everyone is as sacred as the next.” Kuan Yin speaking in The Living Word of Kuan Yin

“Militarism can’t happen without a dominant mindset, certain perceptions about the world, about other cultures. So many souls, energies have a certain perception of others. They believe they’re separate from each other. Such perceptions can collect into an energy agreeing upon a specific direction the country will take. The lesson is acceptance of differences. Don’t forget you are a part of everything and everything is a part of you...If every human being recognized the power of the love and forgiveness principle, all consciousness on earth would change instantly. Indeed, thoughts can change the course of history. Sometimes, all it takes is enough people knowing about a certain concept.”
